Luke Gignac Leads Laps, Posts Top-Five at Flamboro

IMG_5564Leading 18 laps in the first of the two features, Luke Gignac could taste his first career feature victory. Unfortunately, the night didn’t pan out as he’d hoped.

Running a pair of features, Gignac started pole for the first 20-lap affair. The rookie was able to clear Chris Milwain on Lap 1, putting the No. 99 PBS Motors & Pumps, Wolseley Canada, Dave Wiggins Custom Exhaust, OTD Building Supplies, Fox’s Bakery and Deli, TSS Top Shops, Wix Filters, Heritage Heating Contractors, Duckworths Fish and Chips Orillia, Saniflo, and Dwinnel’s Family Movers Modified out front.

It looked as though Gignac was headed to his first career feature victory in his rookie season. However, his car began to slow with two laps to go with a mechanical problem. It was discovered post-race the coil wire burnt off at the cap.

For the second feature, Gignac started sixth, hoping for redemption. He’d get by Dan Price for fifth at Lap 6, but battling a loose racecar on a single-groove track, he was unable to make up anymore ground. Gignac ultimately crossed the finish line in fifth for his fourth top-five this season.

The next race for the OSCAAR Modifieds is at Delaware Speedway on August 19.
