Luke Gignac Suffers Mechanical Issues at Iron Man 72 at Sunset Speedway

INNISFIL, Ontario — Sometimes it is your day, and sometimes you just get dealt a bad hand. This past weekend at Sunset Speedway, ADAMS Motorsports unfortunately endured the latter in the Iron Man 72.

Luke Gignac started off the weekend well, finishing third in the first heat, followed by a sixth in the second qualifier.

Starting 14th for the first 36-lap feature on Saturday night, Gignac moved up into 12th in the early laps, battling side-by-side with Chris Milwain for the 11th spot at the halfway mark. Despite losing the spot with 16 laps left in the feature, Gignac continued to battle hard en route to a 12th-place finish.

While preparing for the second feature on Sunday, the team discovered a broken left front spindle just before the feature. The decision was then made to start and park, with Gignac hitting pit road on Lap 6. He would be credited with a 17th-place finish.

Gignac will be back in action at Flamboro Speedway on Sunday October 6, for the next round of Queenston Chevrolet Buick GMC OSCAAR Modified competition. Gignac currently sits fourth in the standings, 34 points behind second.
