Darryl St. Onge Rebounds for Top-10 Following Mid-Race Spin

After being spun while running in the top-five, Darryl St. Onge rebounded for a top-10 finish on Sunday at Sunset Speedway.

St. Onge was quick right from the start of the night, leading seven laps in his qualifying race before being passed on the final lap for a runner-up finish. He then backed it up with a fourth-place finish in his second heat.

Starting the feature from sixth, he dropped back to ninth in the early stages, remaining there until the first caution at Lap 23 when he moved up a spot due to a competitor pitting. Restarting eighth, he avoided an incident on the restart to move up two spots to sixth. Just outside of the top-10, he used the next restart to move into the top-five, avoiding another spin ahead of him to move up two more spots.

Restarting third with 13 laps to go, a battle with past series champion Gary McLean did not work out in his favor, as contact would send St. Onge for a spin in turn three at Lap 30. Restarting from the tail of the field, St. Onge immediately began making up ground, running ninth when the feature was called two laps short of the scheduled distance.

The OSCAAR Modifieds will be back in action at Kawartha Speedway on July 13. alongside the OSCAAR Hot Rod Series, Ontario Legends Series, and Bone Stocks. Luke Gignac Caught up in Crash at Spring Velocity at Sunset Speedway

Running in the top-10 throughout the OSCAAR Modified Spring Velocity feature at Sunset Speedway, Luke Gignac would be caught up in a crash during the late stages of the feature.

The defending series champion showed speed during the qualifying, placing third in the first heat, followed by a victory in the second.

Starting eighth in the feature, he’d stick there in line through the early stages, moving up to seventh under the second caution at Lap 16 when a fellow competitor’s motor expired. He’d remain seventh on the restart, keeping the steady track position through the next pair of restarts. Following the fifth caution at Lap 26, he was set to challenge Chad Strawn for the sixth position.

Unfortunately, there’d be contact on the frontstretch, resulting in Gignac making significant contact with the frontstretch wall and ending his feature early. ADAMS Motorsports has already begun to asses and work on repairing the damage, ready to rebound at the next series event.

The OSCAAR Modifieds will be back in action at Kawartha Speedway on June 1 alongside the OSCAAR Hot Rod Series, Ontario Legends Series, and Bone Stocks. Make sure to come out and check out the great night of racing, remembering to either print or show the coupon to get $5 off your general admission.
