Luke Gignac Rebounds for Top-Five Finish at Sunset Speedway

INNISFIL, Ontario — Despite going around for a spin at the beginning of the feature, Luke Gignac rebounded for a top-five finish on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway.

Gignac was solid in his first heat, scoring a sixth-place finish to qualify 11th for the 50-lap feature.

Right off the drop of the green flag, things went affray with Gignac going around in turn four. There would be no caution, with Gignac getting the No. 99 Modified righted the right away and continuing on. He would be able to catch back up to the field when the first caution flew at Lap 6, cracking the top-10 on Lap 10. He would continue to move forward, moving up into eighth before the second caution at Lap 18.

Restarting on the outside of row four, he would jump up seventh. He would then avoid an incident ahead of him at the halfway mark to move up into fifth. Restarting on the inside of row three, he’d solidly hold his ground despite being challenged, with the caution coming out on Lap 34 for a spin in turn four.

With lightning occurring off of the backstretch and a storm ready to move in, the event was called at this point. Due to over half of the 50 laps being complete, the race is deemed official with full points being counted. Gignac was credited with a fifth-place finish.

Gignac will be back in action at Flamboro Speedway on Saturday, July 27 for the next round of Queenston Chevrolet Buick GMC OSCAAR Modified competition. Gignac currently sits fourth in the standings, 11 points behind third.

Gignac Fights Through Adversity for Pair of Heat Top-Fives

INNISFIL, Ontario — Despite facing adversity with a couple incidents, Luke Gignac would score a pair of top-fives in his qualifying heats ran on Saturday as part of Sunset Speedway’s Spring Velocity.

The first heat did not start out well for Gignac, as he would go for a spin on the second lap. He then had a competitor come across his nose four laps later, resulting in slight damage to the fender of the No. 99 Modified. Despite these incidents, Gignac crossed the finish line with a fifth-place finish.

He then came out for the second round of qualifying, running up front throughout the 10-lap affair en route to finishing second.

Unfortunately, wet weather on Sunday did not allow for the 40-lap feature to be run. As a result, drivers in attendance will be awarded their heat points, as well as 50 show-up points.

Gignac  will be back in action at Jukasa Motor Speedway on June 1.

Luke Gignac Rebounds for Top-10 at Autumn Colours Classic

PETERBOROUGH, Ontario — After being involved in a mid-race caution, Luke Gignac made his way back to the front for a top-10 finish in the Autumn Colours Classic at Peterborough Speedway.

Gignac finished third in his first heat on Friday night, followed by a third in the second qualifier on Saturday afternoon.

Starting eighth in Sunday’s feature, he’d remain there through the early laps despite a pair of cautions. He’d drop back two spots to 10th by Lap 17, set to ride in line until he was caught up in another driver’s incident at Lap 23. He’d make his way down pit road, with the ADAMS Motorsports pit crew changing the flat tire before sending him back out.

Restarting at the tail of the field, he’d avoid incident on the first attempts at a restart, before spinning to avoid contact on the third attempt. Due to spinning to avoid, he’d be given back the 10th position where he was running. He would get up to ninth on the restart, moving up another spot when another competitor had a problem under the eighth yellow flag at Lap 32. He would then avoid an incident shortly after the restart to gain another couple positions, ultimately crossing the finish line with a sixth-place finish.

Luke Gignac Rebounds From Spin for Top-Five at Frostoberfest

HAMILTON, Ontario — Despite being sent for a spin with 10 laps to go, Luke Gignac made his way back to the front for a top-five finish at Flamboro Speedway’s Frostoberfest.

Gignac showed speed in qualifying, finishing fifth in his first heat, followed by a runner-up in the second qualifier.

Starting fifth for the 50-lap feature, he’d get alongside Kelly Balson for fourth in the early stages, but the second caution came out at the same time on Lap 3 for a car going around deep in the field. Restarting in fifth, he’d move up into fourth and remain there as the race reached, and past the halfway mark. Through the middle portion of the event, the field strung out as they caught lap cars, with Gignac being chased from behind for fourth. Shawn Chenoweth would catch Gignac for fourth, looking for a way by five straight laps. He wouldn’t be able to make it happen, though, as the pair made contact on Lap 41, causing Gignac to go around for the third caution.

Restarting ninth with 10 laps to go, he’d avoid an incident ahead of him on the restart to move up two spots to seventh. Restarting just outside of the top-five, he’d move back into the top-five, with a pass on Dale Reinhart with five laps to go. He’d catch Jason Keen for fourth, but was unable to complete the pass, ultimately crossing the finish line in fifth.
